3G2 is a multimedia container format which is developed by 3GPP2 (3rd Generation Partnership Project 2) especially for 3G CDMA2000 multimedia services. For the storage of video format 3G2 supports MPEG-4 media with AAC audio, MPEG-4 Part 2 video, MPEG-4 Part 10 and H.264/AVC file formats. That’s the reasons why 3G2 specifications are often refers as MP4 and AVC file formats.
With extension of (.3g2), 3G2 file format is widely used for distributing, transmitting and sharing multimedia contents over internet. This file format can then easily be downloaded and played over systems like Windows, Mac, Linux with several multimedia players like Apple’s QuickTime player, VideoLAN VLC Player, DivX player and MPlayer for Mac, PowerDVD and with others. In fact some people store 3G2 video on their cell phones so, that they can watch and enjoy that video later but at times cell phones fail to play all the varieties of 3G2 videos because of the limited source code supported by the CDMA based mobile phones.
